Cold Brew
Description
Delicious cold brew begins with delicious coffees. That's why our cold brew is blended directly from coffees on our single origin menu. After roasting, we rest our coffees in air-tight packaging, allowing their trapped gasses to gently release over time. This rest helps the flavors to dissolve properly in cold water. The result is a sweet, vibrant, and flavorful cold brew that is refreshing over ice, complex with milk and sugar, and even strong enough to deliver some pep to your favorite cocktails.
When making cold brew, we suggest making cold brew concentrate that you then dilute to your preferred taste.
To make the concentrate, we use a 1:8 brewing ratio. For every 1 oz of ground coffee (28.35g) you will use 8 oz of water (226.8g). For example: 8 oz of ground coffee --> 64 oz of water --> yields 52 oz of cold brew concentrate
- Place the coarsely ground coffee into the filter.
- This could either be a disposable paper filter or a reusable cloth filter. Or you can purchase an Oval Ware brewer with a reusable, removable, easy-to-clean, built-in filter.
- Saturate coffee grounds with room-temperature water.
- We recommend measuring the amount of water you need for the recipe before pouring it in to ensure an accurate amount is making it into the brewer.
- Allow the coffee to steep refrigerated or unrefrigerated for at least 18 hours or longer to your preferred taste.
- When steeping in the refrigerator, your brew will take 24 hours.
- Once your desired extraction has occurred, remove coffee grounds from the yielded cold brew concentrate.
- Cut concentrate with water. We have found that a 2:1 ratio (Cold Brew Concentrate to water) is the sweet spot for our cold brew.
- Store in refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes from the team: These brew ratios and recipes are not meant to be prescriptive but rather a helpful guide to get you started. Our goal as a company is to provide a stepping stone to make brewing coffee a little less scary. We are here for you and we know you got this! Play around with ratios, make a lot of coffee, have fun with it, and if you run out of coffee - we will always have another bag ready for you!
Shipping Schedule
We roast Monday - Wednesday and ship USPS priority. Orders placed after 12pm on Wednesday will be filled immediately if we have the coffee on hand. Otherwise, your order will be roasted & shipped the following week.
