Akanyaru Hill, Rwanda

Description

Tucked in Rwanda’s Southern Province, near the border of Burundi, Akanyaru Hill is home to a collective of smallholder farmers cultivating coffee at 1800 meters. These farms may seem small, averaging just 0.23 hectares, but together, they produce something extraordinary. With the support of Baho Coffee and processing at the nearby Fugi Station, the farmers of Akanyaru Hill are part of a focused effort to elevate both quality and opportunity.

While farmers in the region may grow a range of varieties, the Akanyaru Hill lot is a dedicated selection of Red Bourbon—carefully harvested, sorted, and processed to highlight the best the hill has to offer. With shade-grown practices, fruit-bearing trees, and eco-conscious cultivation, this coffee is as sustainable as it is delicious.

Processing begins with meticulous hand-sorting and density separation, followed by a gentle fermentation and Rwanda’s unique “skin drying” method under shade, setting the stage for clarity and vibrancy in the cup. This lot is part of Baho’s appellation project: small, traceable groups from distinct hills producing coffee with unmistakable character.

Akanyaru Hill represents more than a name on a map. It’s a community-driven pursuit of excellence, rooted in care, elevation, and a shared vision for specialty coffee.
