Burundi, Nkanda
Description
Pierre Nzeyimana, along with his three sons, own and operate the Nkanda Washing Station in Ngozi, Burundi, a small African country of 12 million residents. Of Burundi’s 18 provinces, Ngozi historicically does not receive as much attention as neighboring province, Kayanza, and often finds their product as a part of a blend rather than best in show – until now.
Ngozi’s hard, rocky, laterite soil allows for a new impact on the flavor of this Red Bourbon. The density of Red Bourbon receives heat well, bringing forth the rich complexity of well-loved East African coffees. This coffee possesses forthcoming citrus and stone fruit similar to Kenyan coffee but without the high-acidity levels and intensity that most Kenyan coffees have. Rather, this coffee is delicate and sweet while maintaining a fuller body and mouthfeel. This coffee encapsulates the proper balance of approachability and depth, making it a win for anyone no matter where they are in their coffee journey.
This coffee is fully washed and experiences a double fermentation process before drying on raised beds for 15-20 days. Pierre and the Nkanda Washing Station have been in partnership with Homage Coffee Sourcers since the beginning. This beautiful Red Bourbon has brought a new sparkle to Burundi, but specifically to Ngozi’s voice, now amplified.
