Located just outside of Burundi's largest city, Bujumbura, Mutambu had a rich history of coffee farming until Burundi's 12-year civil war displaced farmers and destroyed crops. After peace was established in 2005, a local engineer, Pontien Ntunzwenimana, was determined to bring coffee farming back to his home town. In 2016, he built the state of the art Migoti Washing Station, giving local farmers confidence to return and reinvest in their farms. Now 7 years into their journey, Migoti's consistently high quality coffees have earned Mutambu coffee farmers better lives and a strong reputation as some of the best producers in Burundi. Processed at Migoti, this specific lot comes from small holder farmers around Murambi Hill, where organic fertilizing practices have contributed to the quality of the coffee and return vital nutrients to the soil.
